STEERING, SUSPENSION AND BRAKING

Millennium City Garages can "steer" you in the right direction when it comes to fixing power steering, suspension and braking systems.

Since Millennium City Garages is an independently owned and operated family run business our prices are highly competitive. For the most accurate estimate, bring your vehicle to our site in Great Suffolk Street site for a free inspection. Our trained technicians can then assess your vehicle's needs, answer any questions and review your options.

The steering, suspension and braking systems on every car is very important and requires regular maintenance to keep them at an optimum standard. The steering rack and suspension system on all motor vehicles is easily knocked out of alignment by all the speed humps and potholes in the road. When the wheel alignment becomes out of tolerance the tyres will wear unevenly on either edge of the side walls.

Noticeable signs of wear and tear in these areas are covered below in our short effect and possible cause guide.

The car pulls to one side while moving:
  • All of the car's tires do not have the same air pressure
  • The wheels are out of alignment
  • One brake is dragging or isn't releasing
  • Loose steering parts and/or linkage
  • The car's tires are not worn evenly
The car seems to wander down the road:
  • The wheels are out of alignment
  • The car's springs are weak
  • The steering gear is out of adjustment or needs to be replaced
The Steering wheel jerks:
  • The power steering belt is loose
  • The fluid level in the power steering pump is low
  • The engine is idling too low
  • There is a problem with the power steering pump
  • The steering linkage is rubbing against something
The Steering wheel vibrates:
  • Warped or damaged brake rotors and/or drums
  • Out-of-balance wheel and tire assemblies
  • Loose steering linkage
  • Strut Mounts
  • Coil and Leaf Springs
  • Steering Stabilizers
  • Rack and Pinion
  • Motor Cushions
If any of these faults are present on your vehicle we strongly recommend you have your wheel alignment, suspension and brakes checked and adjusted if necessary, as soon as possible.

At Millennium City Garages we can prolong the life of vehicle and in particular your tyres with a free wheel alignment check and regular servicing. Our highly trained technicians can be of assistance to advise you of the best solution for any steering, suspension or braking problems.

Please go to our information section for further articles on tyre tread pattern types, tyre wear patterns, and wheel alignment.
